BWMC services and centers of excellence include the Aiello Breast Center, Tate Cancer Center, Maryland Vascular Center, PET/CT technology, emergency care, pediatric care, psychiatric care, Joint Replacement Center, Spine and Pain Center, Wound Healing Center, Joslin Diabetes Center, cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation services, endoscopy services and geriatric services. BWMC is also a Primary Stroke Center.
In March 2007, BWMC was named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals® by Solucient®. BWMC was the only hospital in Maryland and the District of Columbia to receive this award, which recognizes hospitals that have achieved excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, financial performance, efficiency and growth in patient volume.
- BWMC is a 293-bed community hospital.
- BWMC sees about 19,000 inpatients a year, and the Emergency Department sees more than 86,000 patients a year.
- BWMC has more than 2,400 employees, and more than 600 physicians have privileges here.
- BWMC opened in 1965 and has continuously grown over the years, becoming one of the largest and best-equipped medical centers in the state.
- In 2000, BWMC became part of the University of Maryland Medical System – a nationally recognized academic medical center that includes some of the most advanced clinical services available anywhere.
- In 2006, a $117 million expansion project began that will bring a new patient tower, a new women’s health center with obstetrics and an expanded emergency department to the campus in late 2008.
