About Us

From Our Patients

Each year, we receive hundreds of thank you letters from our patients thanking us for the exemplary care they received while at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. These letters are important, as they validate the quality of care that we provide. We have shared excerpts of these letters below.

“It is with great pleasure to bring to you notice of the impeccable customer service skills, proven dedication and personal touch of your staff at the Pediatric and ER units.

My son was admitted into the ER and later transferred to the pediatric unit where he spent 31 hours taking treatment for asthma.

I am very delighted and appreciative of the wonderful way my son was cared for by your staff. My son has a history of asthma and I have been taking him to another hospital. I want to honestly state here that your staff performed better than any other hospital staff that treated him.

Please let your ER and pediatric staff units know that my family is very appreciative of the kind and loving care my son received. We have made Baltimore Washington Medical Center our number one choice for future medical needs.”

“If you had asked me ten weeks ago what I thought of hospitals, I would have replied: avoid them. If you asked me now, I would say I can hardly wait to return. The reason for this u-turn in my attitude was the treatment I received at Baltimore Washington Medical Center during my first ever stay at a hospital.

Until last December, I had spent only a few hours in hospitals, primarily as a visitor. But then an “episode” brought me to the emergency room, where the doctor insisted I remain overnight for further tests. I could never have imagined what was in store for me as I began my 48 hours as a patient. And by the time of my discharge, I almost regretted having to leave.

I was totally overwhelmed by the unexpected way everyone treated me, as if I were some sort of VIP. From the staff of the ER and Radiology Departments to the transporters, therapists, techs and, most of all, my second floor cardiac nurses – they were all very attentive, caring and competent. They were constantly inquiring how I felt. I could not have been more pampered at a four star hotel!

I can’t thank the wonderful staff enough for making my short stay so enjoyable, and for changing my attitude regarding hospitals. They were all just great, and I am (almost) looking forward to my next stay.”

“I was transported to BWMC by ambulance for severe Renal Colic from Kidney Stones. I was in extreme pain and very worried about the care I would receive from the Emergency Department at BWMC. My worries were based upon forty years of intermittent Kidney Stones (sixteen incidents). To date, I had never been treated for the intense pain associated with Renal Colic by an Emergency Room.

The treatment I received from the BWMC staff was nothing short of professional and sincere care for me as a patient in severe pain. Almost immediately upon my arrival at the Emergency Department at BWMC, I was seen by a physician and several nurses. They listened to my complaint about the intensity of my pain. For the first time, in my history of Kidney Stones, I was administered a strong narcotic analgesic IV without being "put on hold" for hours. Once my pain subsided, CT scans and Xrays were taken confirming the fact that I had a large 5mm stone lodged in my right ureter.

I am sincerely grateful for the considerate and professional treatment I was given as a first time patient to BWMC. The staff provided wonderfully for me while I was in the ER. Not only did they insure my immediate pain management needs, the doctor arranged for me to see a local urologist the next day and insured that surgery, if necessary, would be available on a timely basis. Since the stone had not passed, I was given a prescription for an oral narcotic and a medication to help relieve the muscle spasms in my right ureter.

Although this was my first visit to BWMC, I will certainly use this facility as my hospital of choice in the future.”

“I believe in angels. Last month I made three trips to the emergency room. You must have a special connection as there are a number of angels on your staff who helped me through a tough time. After my first trip to the ER, I spent four days on the second floor where I was treated with kindness and care. During my stay, I was diagnosed with a tumor on my pituitary gland. These angels made my hospital stay more bearable…it is a wonderful feeling to know that when you are as sick as I have been, that I can truly trust your professionals to look out for my best interests.”

“Thank you, thank you, thank you. I had a kidney stone and my urologist told my wife to take me to the emergency room. I was admitted to BWMC and I just wanted to let you know how pleased I was with my experience. Everyone I came into contact with – the ER staff, the nurses, techs, dietary, transport, OR - treated me with kindness, concern, and a willingness to help. I was thoroughly impressed! I hope that you can in some way let the staff know that I am very thankful for my treatment!”
