Speech-Language Pathology

Speech-language pathology is the evaluation and treatment of disorders of speech, voice, language, cognition, and swallowing. As part of the therapeutic program, speech-language pathologists educate and counsel people on the impact of and strategies for managing communication and swallowing disorders.

Services offered for adults with:

  • Dysphagia (swallowing disorders)-- instrumental diagnosis by videofluoroscopy with modified barium swallow.
  • Aphasia (language disorders).
  • Oral-motor dysfunction.
  • Dysarthria (speech disorders).
  • Voice disorders.
  • Cognitive-linguistic impairments.
  • Head and neck cancer (i.e. laryngectomy).
  • Swallow evaluation after surgery or radiation.
  • Alternative communication techniques and devices.

The Department of Rehabilitation Services is pleased to announce the addition of pediatric speech/language evaluation and therapy services. Services may be provided for the following problems:

  • Articulation (difficulty producing specific sounds/words)
  • Language (limited vocabulary, difficulty understanding questions, delayed speech)
  • Fluency (stuttering).

Appointments

In most cases, you will be given an appointment within three (3) to five (5) working days. Please call 410-787-4433 to make an appointment.

Fees and Insurance

We participate with most insurance carriers. As a courtesy, insurance benefits are pre-authorized so that patients will understand benefit limitations and/or any financial obligations they may incur.
