The 5th Floor is a medical/surgical unit specializing in orthopedics, vascular and neurological patients. We are the home to Advanced Orthopedics at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, which consists of the joint replacement program and the spine and pain center. Additionally, the 5th Floor staff are the only staff trained to care for AAA Endograft patients outside of the ICU. Learning new procedures and enhancing staff eperiences and education is very important on our unit.
Because of our unique specialties, the staff are very aware of the importance of pain management. We work closely with each individual patient to control his or her pain effectively. We collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and rehabilitation services to ensure patient needs are met in a timely and effective manner. Our unit is fast-paced with opportunities for broad experiences with multiple acute and chronic diseases. Each individual member of our staff is a team player and committed to excellence in providing outstanding patient care.

Testimonials
Carol Ludwig, RN, C
“I have worked at Baltimore Washington Medical Center for 23 years. The
staff is friendly throughout the hospital. We have a multi-disciplinary approach
where all departments and the physicians work together to deliver the best care
possible to our patients. Scheduling is flexible and continued education is
encouraged and subsidized. I have always enjoyed working here, the job is challenging
and nurses have autonomy. I am on an orthopedic floor which I find very interesting.”
Susan Santos, RN, BSN
