For Patients

Going Home

Patients having outpatient surgery must have a legally responsible adult who will be responsible for receiving the post-op instructions and for transportation home. We would prefer that the responsible adult who will accompany the patient remain in the hospital during the procedure. The patient may still be feeling the effects of anesthesia after the surgery, so he/she will not be allowed to leave the hospital unaccompanied. This includes someone else besides a cab driver. Also, please make arrangements for someone to stay with the patient for the first twenty-four (24) hours after surgery. Failure to comply with the above may cause delay or cancellation of surgery!

Post-surgical follow-up

A nurse or case manager will call the patient within 24 to 48 hours of the surgery for an in-depth interview. This call will help determine the patient's physical, mental and emotional condition.
